Richard Mort · PANSOME
Make the show useful before you arrive and after you get home.
You may need an interpreter for three days. You may need someone to find five companies worth visiting, ask better questions during the meetings or follow up when you are back in Japan. Sometimes you need all of that. We can agree the parts that will actually help.
The work behind the visit
I'm Richard Mort, a British researcher, writer and interpreter based in Düsseldorf, with 20 years in Japan behind me. I work with companies travelling in both directions and with people who need a presence at a fair they cannot attend themselves.
Before the show
I read the relevant company and product material, research possible counterparts and prepare a shortlist with reasons for each choice. We can work on the introduction, likely questions and English material your team will use. With enough lead time, a separate outreach brief can include approaching selected companies about a meeting.
At the show
Interpreting starts before anyone speaks. Understanding what you sell, what you need to know and which terms matter makes the conversation more useful. On-site support can also include meeting preparation, agreed visits to other stands and practical help for visiting teams. Where appropriate, I work with PANSOME on Japanese-German communication and local delivery.
For companies staying at home, we can arrange a focused research visit or discuss representation at agreed stands. We establish how we will introduce ourselves, what we may ask or share and what you want back. The report should answer the brief, not simply prove that somebody walked around the halls.
After the show
I can help turn notes and business cards into a usable contact record, identify what each promising conversation needs next and prepare the messages. A joint follow-up assignment can include local calls and Japanese progress reports, with responsibilities and outgoing communication agreed beforehand.
The work can continue into a researched article, an internal briefing or a content-driven inbound campaign. A fair contains plenty of material. The question is which of it will be useful to your customers and colleagues.
Start with the event and the job it needs to do.
Send me the fair name, dates, languages and what you most need help with. Tell me whether you are exhibiting, visiting or staying at home. I'll set out the proposed work, who would do it and the fee.
What you receive and who does the work
Your proposal names the questions, exhibitors or subjects to investigate, the report language and the delivery date. I lead research, written preparation and reporting; PANSOME adds agreed local Japanese-German communication and visits. The proposal names who attends. Joint reports are agreed in Japanese or English.
Multi-day support
The reference range is €2,500–4,500. Preparation, event days and follow-up determine the final quote; travel and admission are identified separately. You can also commission a smaller, defined piece of the work.
Scope and costs before you book
Before paid work starts, I'll put the scope in writing: what you'll receive, the language, deadline, fee and who will do each part. The quote identifies any travel, event admission and partner costs, along with any applicable taxes. I start the agreed work once we've settled the brief and you've paid the 50% advance. We'll agree any additional work separately. Prices are in euros.
